The Olivetti Historical Archive Association participates in the Carbon Neutrality project of the TIM Group websites.

Olivetti is also among the Group companies supporting the initiative.

During 2023, the main websites of the TIM Group and those of the Olivetti Historical Archive Association, with almost 490 million overall page views, generated approximately 397 tonnes of CO2eq, as many as would be produced, for example, by a machine that it goes around the planet 33 times.

This is the result of the calculation that the TIM Group has been carrying out since 2020 thanks to the CO2web® methodology developed by Rete Clima, a non-profit body specialized in promoting sustainability in organisations, and verified by the ICMQ Certification Body. The web, in fact, contributes to generating harmful emissions, for example, due to the energy consumption of the servers that host the websites and the services needed to make them work.

This year we continue to offset the climate impact of our websites with support for The Envira Amazonia REDD+ (Reduction of emissions from deforestation and degradation) project in Brazil.

Protection of the Amazon rainforest
The Envira Amazonia REDD+ project aims to prevent the deforestation of an area of 39,000 hectares of tropical rainforest in Brazil, preserving the local biodiversity and providing economic opportunities for local communities.
The project produces a series of environmental, social and economic benefits for the area and its population and allows us to avoid the release of approximately 1.2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year for a period of 30 years.

Specifically, in addition to protecting plant and environmental species at risk, it provides training courses on sustainable agriculture, new job opportunities and social programs for the collection, transport and sale of açaí and medicinal plants.

In addition to the carbon offset activity in Brazil, this year too we will organize a new forestation project in Italy after those in Milan and Rome which saw the active participation of TIM Group employees.

Rete Clima’s CO2web® methodology
To evaluate the emissions of the TIM Group’s websites, the CO2web® methodology developed by Rete Clima and verified by the ICMQ Certifying Body was used, which allows the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the hosting of the websites to be quantified on the basis of energy consumption of the servers that host the web pages and of all the services necessary for their operation, including cooling.
Emissions were neutralized thanks to the cancellation of carbon credits in support of an international environmental protection project, certified according to the VCS-Verra standard, to generate an equal positive environmental impact (carbon off-setting), validated and verified according to the CCBS – The Climate Community and Biodiversity Standards with Triple Gold Level Distinction for the positive impact on climate change mitigation, support for local communities and protection of biodiversity.
The carbon neutrality of the sites was finally certified with the release of a Green label “CO2emission zero® website” which will be present on all the Group’s websites.
