Ivrea
Today, following an Extraordinary General Assembly of its members, the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti (AASO) took a significant step marked by both vision and pragmatism, renewing its statute and extending its institutional lifespan. This decision further reinforces the Association’s central role within the national and international cultural landscape.
The Association works daily to collect, preserve, and promote the documentary, historical, and cultural heritage of Olivetti. Acting on behalf of Olivetti, in cooperation with the Fondazione Adriano Olivetti and together with its members, including the Municipality of Ivrea and TIM, AASO serves as the primary, authoritative source for the reconstruction, interpretation, and transmission of the company’s history, safeguarding its rights and promoting its intellectual and material legacy.
Viewing the testimonies that constitute the company’s heritage as a unique compass of values and style, and considering the documentary archive as the identity-defining and creative core of a company that continues to evolve and remain a point of reference, the Association constantly looks toward the future and to younger generations. In doing so, it reaffirms its commitment to the tradition of innovation that has characterized both Olivetti and the field of corporate culture, through innovative, digital, and open projects that place people at the center, in keeping with the enduring principles of the Olivetti vision.
“Culture is a strategic asset for business and a driver of social growth. The history of Olivetti, a globally recognized brand, stands as tangible evidence and historical testimony of a responsible way of doing business. Renewing the Statute of the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti through 2060 means reaffirming, with even greater authority, the Association’s mission to interpret the innovative spirit of the company and its founders, continuously enhancing its tangible and intangible heritage in new ways.
This decision reflects a vision that assigns strategic value to time itself, demonstrating our enduring ability to generate knowledge and open new pathways toward the future, according to the same conception that sees the archive as an engine of innovation, where values, history, and identity become tools for development and cultural production. We preserve, manage, and project into the future an entrepreneurial, cultural, and human legacy that is essential to supporting the value-driven growth of the country, from Ivrea to the world, reaffirming the importance and centrality of the city where Olivetti was born. For future generations. For those who seek in business a higher expression of civilization.”
Gaetano di Tondo, President, Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti
“The extension of the Statute of the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti represents the continuation of the Fondazione Adriano Olivetti’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the memory of the many dimensions of the Olivetti experience. More than forty years have passed since 1985, when the first archival nucleus was established at the initiative of Olivetti and under the leadership of Roberto Olivetti, followed by Laura Olivetti, as Presidents of the Foundation. Thirty years have also passed since the decision to transform that entity into an Association that, by opening itself to territorial stakeholders, could carry out its mission in continuity with the Olivetti approach and independently of the uncertainty that, at the time, surrounded the future of the company whose name it bears.
It is within this broad, inclusive vision—rooted in the past and oriented toward the future—that we find the values now renewed in the Statute of the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti. These values form the strongest foundations of the Foundation’s mission, established in 1962 through the initiative not only of Adriano Olivetti’s direct heirs but also of his closest collaborators, and legitimized by more than sixty years of cultural and scientific activity.”
Cinthia Bianconi, President, Fondazione Adriano Olivetti
“The renewal of the Statute of the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti through 2060 goes beyond simple institutional continuity: it is a long-term choice in an era that too often privileges the immediate. Memory is not preservation alone; it is an active responsibility toward what a community chooses to pass on. Ivrea recognizes in its industrial history not a static monument, but a way of thinking capable of generating the future. In the Archive’s quiet work, we find the essential trait of the Olivetti legacy: culture as a concrete commitment over time.”
Matteo Chiantore, Mayor of the City of Ivrea
