Box set containing both the documentaries made by Davide Maffei in association with the Olivetti Historical Archives Association and produced by Serena Mignani for Air Pixel. Using documents from the archives, libraries and cultural institutes, and footage from former factories in Italy and abroad, it was possible to reconstruct Olivetti’s unique approach to architecture, industrial design and communication. The specially created artwork and graphics on the box set are by Jan Sedmak; the font was created by Studio Iknoki.
Paradigma Olivetti (The Olivetti Paradigm) covers the period from the 1960s to the 1990s, the so-called ‘post-Adriano’ era. Its starting point is the arrival of Ettore Sottsass and the launch of his colourful revolution of the office world and its furnishings, followed by the shapes of Mario Bellini’s portable calculators, Clino Trini Castelli’s meta corporate identity project and the cutting-edge graphics of Perry King and Santiago Miranda.
Prospettiva Olivetti (The Olivetti Perspective) begins in Ivrea, recounting how Olivetti announced itself through its architecturally advanced industrial and shop premises. A ‘business card’ that turned into a recognisable identity for those who worked there. This documentary is a lengthy journey in the company of many voices, compiled in part from archive material, which also takes us physically to some of the places that were built between the 1960s and 1980s and which we see brought to back to life.
